Children Orthodontics
First Orthodontic Check-up
| Braces Are Cool | FAQ
The American Association of Orthodontists
recommends that all children have an orthodontic evaluation by age
7. While it is clear that children vary in the timing of skeletal
and dental development, age 7 is a good “rule of thumb”,
because this is the age at which many potential problems in alignment,
occlusion and tooth development first begin to manifest themselves.
Early orthodontic screening allows for immediate intervention in
cases where it is indicated. Quite often intervention will be indicated,
but not yet. In these cases, a program of growth monitoring can
be instituted for the patient, so that the optimum “window
of opportunity” can be utilized when the time is right.
The goal of early orthodontic evaluation is to provide each patient
with the most appropriate treatment at the most optimum time.
